How to choose the right Dometic cooling unit?
CUSTOM DESIGNED COOLING SOLUTIONS
MORE SPACE WITH MORE COOLING
Ideal for self-assembly!
COOLING UNITS FOR ALL TYPES OF APPLICATIONS
Where standard units do not fit, a tailored cooling space must be provided, a task made easy with Dometic ColdMachine cooling units. Featuring pre-charged refrigerant and self-sealing valve couplings, they are ideal for do-it-yourself installation. There are three different series available to satisfy all applications.
Dometic ColdMachine refrigeration units operate with regulated power compressors. They are powerful, economical and exquisitely silent during operation, they are not sensitive to tilts and are prepared for a 12/24 volt DC connection. Each series comes with complementary evaporators specially designed to match the performance of the compressor.

COMPRESSORS WITH SPEED REGULATION
Each refrigeration system consists of a compressor, a condenser and an evaporator.
To ensure efficient operation, the three key components must be perfectly coordinated. The Dometic range includes a variety of condensers and evaporators for optimal configuration.
Dometic exclusively uses speed-regulated compressors. These compressors contribute significantly to the extraordinary efficiency of Dometic refrigeration systems, along with the following factors:
- The speed of the compressor is precisely adapted to the performance needs of the rest of the system components (evaporator and condenser).
- For both types of compressor there are plates and vanes in a wide range of shapes and sizes. This guarantees the correct equipment of any container, whatever its shape. It also makes optimal use of the compressor's performance.
- Condensing units with active ventilation or with vanes guarantee the necessary heat evacuation at all times.
CHOOSING THE APPROPRIATE COOLING UNIT AND MOUNTING LOCATION
- Condenser: what are the advantages of an air-cooled condenser?
All Dometic refrigeration units are air-cooled: heat is dissipated into the surrounding space via an actively vented or vaned condenser. The advantage over a water-cooled unit: significantly lower installation and maintenance costs with similarly efficient operation.
After all, the air temperature in the hull of the boat below the waterline barely exceeds the temperature of the water.
- Evaporator: Plate or paddle?
The larger the surface area of the evaporator, the more heat it can absorb and the greater its capacity.
For small refrigerator volumes, low-cost plate evaporators are ideal. Paddle evaporators have a surface area up to five times larger than plate evaporators of the same size. - The ideal mounting location: Where on the boat is the air coldest?
The answer is clear: the best location is below the waterline, because there the air is already cooled due to the water temperature.
Dometic offers cooling units in various designs, so that even spaces can be used in impractical ways.
