The magnetron, responsible for generating the radar's microwaves, suffers internal degradation even in STANDBY mode. The accumulation of operating hours—active or latent—reduces its efficiency, affecting range and echo detection quality. Periodic replacement restores the system's original gain, optimizing target discrimination and reliability during nighttime navigation or in low visibility.

In radars with brushed motors, the brushes show wear due to friction proportional to the operating time. It is recommended that they be replaced together with the magnetron to avoid mechanical failures that could compromise antenna rotation.
