Complete navigation and instrumentation refit on a large sailing yacht

During winter 2025/2026, the Dahlberg team carried out a significant project to modernize the navigation systems, instrumentation, and navigation lights aboard a large yacht currently undergoing refit.

The project included the complete replacement of the B&G H2000 racing and navigation system with the new B&G Hercules platform, incorporating state-of-the-art H5000 GFD displays and replacing the existing network infrastructure.

The migration required the complete rewiring of the data network, as well as the integration of existing onboard sensors, including the rigging load measurement systems, allowing for the maintenance of existing functionality and leveraging the advanced capabilities of the new Hercules processor.

Navigation Light Renovation and Monitoring Systems

The light control system was completely renovated through the installation of a LOPOLIGHT NLC system, specifically developed for the operational needs of the vessel.

The new installation was integrated with the onboard alarm system, allowing for centralized supervision and more efficient management of signals and operating statuses.

Complete Mast Wiring Replacement

One of the most significant works of the project was the complete replacement of all cables installed in the mast.

The wiring for navigation lights, antennas, and sensors of the various onboard systems was renewed, including GPS, VHF, Navtex, and navigation instrumentation.

The complete wiring renovation ensures greater operational reliability and significantly reduces the risk of incidents arising from aging installations.

New Radar Systems and Navigation Station

As part of the technological upgrade, two new Furuno NXT radars were installed, improving target detection and tracking capabilities.

Additionally, a new navigation computer with TimeZero Professional (TZ Pro) was supplied and installed, fully integrated with the existing onboard KVM system to facilitate operation from different workstations.

The new navigation console was completed with the incorporation of two latest-generation marine monitors, integrated within the new system architecture.

Integration, Planning, and Execution

The integration of navigation platforms, sensors, radars, control systems, and communication networks demands much more than just replacing equipment. It requires specialized knowledge of electronics, IT, and navigation, supported by detailed planning and rigorous execution.

This project reflects Dahlberg's usual approach to highly complex refits: designing, integrating, and commissioning systems that function as a single, reliable, efficient platform prepared for current operational demands. Furthermore, our involvement does not end at the dock; we conduct sea trials to validate the installation's operation in real navigation conditions, personally verifying that all systems respond according to the design criteria and anticipated performance.
