Quick Introduction to Vacuum Toilet System

To know everything about the vacuum toilet from Dometic (Sealand), don't forget to visit our section Sanitation Guides and Manuals.

If you have always had doubts about how the vacuum toilet works, these tips will solve them.

Start:

  1. Turn on the water supply inlet.
  2. Turn on electrical power to the system.
  3. Make sure all bottom valves and in-line check valves are in the correct operating position.
  4. Pump water into the system by depressing the pump pedal until water begins to flow into the vacuum pump, approximately 15 seconds.
  5. The vacuum pump will run for approximately 60 to 90 seconds until the system reaches the operating vacuum level and then it will shut off.

System operation

A foot pedal adds water to the toilet bowl and controls the flushing and suction action. This pedal opens a mechanical seal, allowing the suction force to carry waste from the bowl while clean water flows into the bowl and flushes it. The vacuum draws the waste through a 25mm opening in the base of the toilet. The incoming air breaks up the waste as it passes through the opening in the base.

The waste is then transferred through the vacuum generator and into a holding tank, treatment device, or directly off the vessel. The vacuum system is controlled by a vacuum switch located on the outside of the vacuum generator tank. When the switch senses a drop in system vacuum, it automatically signals the pump to bring the vacuum level back to the optimum operating state. This process is typically completed in less than two minutes.

Toilet Operation

  • To add water to the toilet before use, lift the toilet flush pedal until the desired water level is reached. More water is generally required when flushing solids.
  • To flush the contents of the vacuum toilet, push the toilet flush pedal down forcefully until the contents are removed from the bowl. It is normal to feel a sharp clicking sound as the vacuum seal is broken and the flushing action begins. Be sure to hold the lever down for three (3) seconds.
  • Do not flush sanitary pads or other non-dissolving items down the toilet. Do not attempt to flush facial tissue, waterproof paper, paper towels, or excessive amounts of toilet paper down the toilet.

The system  VacuFlush® (vacuum toilet) Dometic ) should be cleaned regularly for maximum sanitary condition and operating efficiency. Clean the toilet bowl with a mild bathroom cleaner. Do not use chlorine solvents or caustic chemicals, such as drain cleaners, as these will damage sealing systems and plumbing. Use the following procedure at least once per month if the system is used regularly, or before leaving the boat for extended periods of time.

4.Pump out all contents of the holding tank or treatment device completely.
