The three Dometic portable cooling systems
THREE PORTABLE COOLING SYSTEMS.
No cooling system can handle all tasks. The best solution for you may be a thermoelectric, compressor or passive cooling unit depending on how and where you plan to use your mobile cooling. Let's start with a detailed comparison of the different individual systems and their features. This will automatically guide you to “your” cooling technology and to “your” cooling unit.
In this video we summarize the three models of portable cooling:
1.STANDARD COMPRESSOR REFRIGERATION AND FREEZING.
Compressor units operate with a refrigerant that changes from a liquid to a gaseous state in the evaporator. Evaporation extracts heat from the interior of the refrigeration unit and the temperature drops. The compressor draws in the refrigerant, compresses it and transfers it to the condenser. There, the absorbed heat is released into the atmosphere. The refrigerant liquefies again and flows to the evaporator, where the cycle begins again.
The benefits of compressor refrigerators and freezers are as follows:
- Excellent cooling capacity even in external ambient temperatures
- Refrigeration and freezing
- Operation with 12/24 volts or 12/24 volts and 100 – 240 volts
- Minimum current consumption
- Ideal for solar powered operation
- Perfect operation in inclined position
- Solar

COOLING AND HEATING:
THERMOELECTRIC SYSTEMS
The thermoelectric principle was discovered by JCA Peltier . For this reason, the temperature generating parts of thermoelectric systems are called “Peltier elements”. Thermoelectric systems are based on the fact that by conducting a direct current between different types of metal, cold or heat is generated. The heating or cooling power is increased by means of heat exchangers and air fans. This is ideal for small and medium-sized cooling volumes.
Benefits of thermoelectric refrigeration units:
- Operation with 12/24 volts DC or 230 volts AC
- They can be used to cool the contents or to keep them warm.
- Perfect operation in inclined position
- Light weight, easy to carry
- They are water resistant and maintenance free.

PASSIVE COOLING WITHOUT POWER SUPPLY
Passive refrigerators operate without any energy source. Cooling is done by means of ice cubes or pre-chilled cold packs. The efficiency of this cooling technology depends on the quality of the insulation of the seals used in the refrigerator. Passive refrigerators have the following advantages: light weight, easy cleaning, long service life and an alternative price.
Benefits of passive cooling:
- Works without power supply
- Lightweight
- Easy cleaning
- Long service life
- Attractive price
