Didac Costa, appointed B&G ambassador

Didac Costa's “One Planet One Ocean” will go around the world equipped with the latest B&G technology.

B&G, global leader in electronics for sailing and instrumentation specialist, has signed a collaboration agreement with the Barcelona sailor Didac Costa through which he becomes brand ambassador.

One of the most active ocean sailors of his generation, Didac Costa has achieved numerous nautical achievements over the last decade and will soon compete for the second time in the Vendée Globe.

“We are very proud to have Didac in our team of B&G ambassadors” comments Pascual Román, Country Manager of B&G Iberia. “In addition to his extensive experience as a sailor, at B&G we value his positive attitude and tenacity, as well as his involvement in different projects related to the environment and the protection of the oceans.”

On board his Imoca 60 “One Planet One Ocean”, Didac has a state-of-the-art electronics system to compete at the highest level in the Vendée Globe: From the new radar Halo20+ , which, thanks to its industry-leading 60 RPM operation, offers a near real-time view at close range, up to the recently introduced Zeus3S , a chartplotter with an extraordinarily fast response time that will provide Didac with the information it needs when it needs it.

A complete H5000 instrument system has also been installed on “One Planet One Ocean”, which has racing-specific functions, including polar tables for performance targets and 3D Motion correction for maximum precision in wind data. Additionally, its H5000 autopilot system is highly effective in the most demanding conditions and environments and is perfect for solo navigation.

I am delighted to collaborate with B&G and to have their technology to compete in a regatta as demanding as the Vendée Globe ” comments Didac Costa. “ Having a reliable and accurate source of data is key to success and I am looking forward to showing other sailors how I use electronics in my daily life .”

In addition to competing in regattas around the world, Didac Costa is involved in numerous initiatives and projects related to the environment. “One Planet One Ocean” is an IOC-UNESCO ambassador and, as such, has the objective of helping to protect the oceans.

Thanks to a sensor installed on board, Didac will participate in a long-term study on surface temperature and salinity and will be able to take measurements in the most remote waters on the planet. The data will be transmitted by satellite and the results will serve scientists to improve knowledge of the regulatory function of the oceans in relation to climate and its changes. Additionally, through its collaboration with the Plankton Planet organization, its IMOCA will become a base for collecting plankton samples, which will be analyzed upon return and studied by scientists to better understand how these organisms live, how they organize themselves and how they adapt to changes in temperature and salinity caused by climate change.
